HOW TO FIND A GOOD ELECTRICIAN?

WHAT TYPE OF ELECTRICIAN ARE YOU TALKING TO?

Find out if you are speaking to a master electrician, a journeyman electrician, or an apprentice electrician. A master electrician is licensed by the state and has a minimum of 8 years working experience and is capable of all electrical work including electrical system design. A master electrician has passed a very comprehensive test based on the current National Electric Code. A journeyman electrician is licensed by the state and has 8,000 hours working under the supervision of the master electrician. The journeyman electrician is capable of nearly all electrical work assigned by the master electrician. Journeyman electricians has also passed a comprehensive test based upon the current NEC code. An Apprentice electrician is a licensed electrician and works under the supervision of a master electrician or a journeyman electrician.

TALK TO DIFFERENT ELECTRICIANS

Be sure to speak with a variety of different electricians or electrical companies before making a final decision on which one to use. Spend some extra time online and doing research. You can see reviews, the selection of electrical services offered, pricing, the electrician’s process, location, and just get an overall idea of what the electrician is about and how they operate. Once you have narrowed down your searches, meet or speak to the electrician and see first hand if you like them. Ask many questions and see if you are comfortable with their responses. A little extra time doing some research will go a long way in finding an electrician you can work with.

READ ELECTRICIAN REVIEWS

When looking for a reliable electrician, you will want to know the reputation of the company. Take the time to look at the electrician’s reviews online. And when you do this, don’t just read a few reviews. Go ahead and look at several of them. Reputable businesses will also have some negative reviews too. Be wary of a business who only has 5-star reviews. Finally, if you do see a negative review, see if the business replied and see how they answered and conducted themselves. An electrician that cares about their customers will make a good faith effort to find out what happened and try to rectify the negative situation.

PRICING, THEIR PROCESS, AND TIMELINESS

Electrical service and work can be expensive. Always be sure to comparison shop when you are looking for an electrician. In many cases, prices across different electric service companies may vary. Be sure the electrician gives you an accurate estimate, the problems they will be fixing, and a timeline of when you can expect the repairs to be done. Have them also list out some of the potential problems they may encounter with pricing so you are not surprised by any new developments. Older homes can and may have hidden problems. A good electrician will advise you and be up front with all of this information.
